Dieting Tips that resulted in a size 10 from size 16

by Susan Maddocks

The best diet tips are the ones that work for you and fit your lifestyle. So think of them not as diet tips but life-changing tips. Going from a size 16 to a size 10 was not easy for me but here are some of my life changing tips that made it happen.

A FREE DAY

Pick one day out of the week where you eat exactly what you want. Really. My day was Sunday and every time I was tempted during the week to break my diet I would remember to save it for Sunday. Eat the sweets, the junk and enjoy every bite. Don’t feel guilty about what you eat or how much. This is your day to relax about your diet. What ends up happening is about the third week using this technique you don’t eat as much. You are more selective with the quality you eat and you find less junk available. Which brings me to my next tip.

NO JUNK FOOD

Don’t bring junk food into the house, just don’t. I found that if I opened the pantry and saw potato chips I would eat them or crave them the rest of the day. Out of sight, out of mind. READ THE LABELS I know we all know this one but for example, anything that has high fructose corn syrup in it just leave on the shelf. There is no value in this ingredient. And you would be surprised how many products use it. Did you know that Campbell’s tomato soup has high fructose corn syrup in it?

FRUIT IS YOUR FRIEND

Have a ton of fresh fruit around and make sure it is seasonal so it if fresh and tasty. Nothing is worse than having to choke down a mealy pear or any food item that is not delicious. Fruit is most delicious when it is in season. How to know what is in season? Just watch what fruit the supermarkets sell at the same time for a low price. Put fruit out in large bowls and make it easy to grab. Have a variety to choose from. If it starts to get overripe, make smoothies and freeze them as popsicles.

DON’T EAT JUST OK FOOD

Another thing that helps me tremendously is not to count calories but base what I put in my mouth simply on taste. If something taste bad or just OK don’t continue to eat it. We are so trained to just finish something once it is in our hand or mouth. But why would you finish something that is just so so? Every item you eat should be a treat. If it doesn’t taste good, put it down.
