PORTION CONTROL

Another tip I find helpful in regards to meals is to eat small portions. When I first started my efforts to loose weight I felt very deprived with this tip. So in the beginning take as much veggies and fruit you want on your plate. But do not go back for seconds. And never put bowls of food on your table. When laying out your meal on your plate, never stack the food. Be able to see the plate between your servings. You can also just put your meal on a smaller plate. 3. Did you know our stomachs are about as big as our two hands cupped together, as if they are going to hold water? When looking at your portions, cup your hands over your food to see if you are eating more than your stomach can hold. This will help you determine if you are eating too much.

INTERNET HELP

As maintaining a healthy weight is a constant job I am always on the look out for new ways to decrease my eating and keep my approach to my diet fresh. The internet is a great source for this, so when you get discouraged go to websites like WebMD, www.webmd.com where I found this helpful tip, “When you need a treat, Ellie Krieger, RD, host of Food Network's Healthy Appetite, suggests taking a walk to your local ice cream parlor or planning a family outing instead of eating it at home. By making it into an adventure, you don't have to worry about the temptation of having treats in the house, and it is a fun and pleasurable way to make it work when you are trying to lose weight," Or this strategy from the Diet Channel, www.thedietchannel.com, “Eating slowly can lead to weight loss. Did you ever notice that thin people take an awfully long time to eat their food? Eating slowly is one method that can help take off pounds. That's because from the time you begin eating it takes the brain 20 minutes to start signaling feelings of fullness. Fast eaters often eat beyond their true level of fullness before the 20 minute signal has had a chance to set in. The amount of calories consumed before you begin to feel full can vary significantly depending on how quickly you eat. So slow down, take smaller bites and enjoy and savor every tasty morsel.” Fascinating, as I have a tendency to gobble my food so I will slow down.

GOOD LUCK

Dieting is a struggle. Hopefully, some of these tips or others you find will work for you. Don’t give up. And when you find yourself in that impossible situation of should I eat it or not, ask yourself this life-changing tip, “Am I eating to live, or living to eat?”
