Designer Whey Protein

by Linda Grace L. Alcantara

I have been strength training for a couple of years before I decided to scour the market for a protein supplement that would be best for me. You see, I was getting quite frustrated with not achieving the toned and lean muscle look that I have been aspiring for. No matter how much gym work that I have been clocking in - I was not getting the kind of muscle development that I would like.

After research and learning that protein will help considerably in attaining lean muscle mass through aiding in muscle regeneration and recovery. I decided to give protein supplements a try. Although I know that egg whites is the purest form of protein, I cannot stand eating just egg whites day in and day out. I needed something that would get the job done and at the same time - alleviate my sweet tooth.

The most readily available whey protein I found was Designer Whey by Next Protein. They offer a variety of flavors; chocolate, vanilla praline, strawberry, double chocolate, and chocolate peanut caramel. However, being a chocolate fanatic, I mixed a scoop Designer Whey chocolate flavor with nonfat milk. It tasted just like chocolate milk! I was hooked! It had of a bit of grainy texture to it, but the overall consistency was just light. And in lieu of a blender, I mixed it using a spoon whenever I need to drink it at home. And at times sometimes, I used a shaker bottle when I am out in the gym. Mixing it wasn’t a hassle at all.

I saw an improvement in muscle mass after a month of using it. I drank it twice a day. Once in the morning and one serving immediately after I worked out. I bulked up big time with Designer Whey coupled with weight training. I needed to add more cardiovascular and circuit training exercises to my training program to achieve the lean and toned look that I was aiming for.

And as for the cost, Designer Whey was a bit on the expensive side when you buy it from a health store. However, it comes out much cheaper when you get it online. But for its price, you get good quality protein from this supplement.

The only downside that I can think of for the Designer Whey protein supplement is the amount of protein it has per serving. One scoop gives you 18g of protein, which is on the low end comparing to other protein supplements out there that provides at least 20g to 25g of protein per scoop. So, there are times that I need to use a scoop and a half to get the amount of protein that I really need.

But all in all, I find Designer Whey protein an excellent product to use. It may not give as much protein like the other supplements out there, but because it is easy on the stomach and it tastes good. I continue to use this protein supplement every time I train.
