Is Dieting for Dummies? [Page 3]

FOODS

I have learned over the years HOW to eat the right foods for me and have also learned to eat those foods which keep me healthy and feeling good. I TAUGHT myself these things because they are important to me. I studied nutrition, supplements, herbs and all kinds of diets from all kinds of books, lectures, journals, experts in the field, and extrapolated from them what works for me. There is so much good information available to people who want to learn what to eat and what not to eat. You can learn on-line almost anything you want to know.

How you learn what is good for YOU is an individual matter. You will learn, through trial and error, what FEELS good in your body and what doesn’t. It takes time and patience and really paying attention to your feelings and your body. Sugar, for instance, (not organic or natural sugar), makes many of us edgy, depressed, agitated, moody and angry. Therefore, to delete it from you diet as much as possible is recommended (Cheating is okay once in a while!). Caffeine, for many of us, has similar effects. There are many coffee-substitutes available which are healthy and satisfying, and it is simply a matter of looking for them. People who are allergic to wheat (more than you think) can also feel out of sorts, sick, and just plain awful if they do eat wheat, AND it can cause unnecessary weight-gain, too. Culturally, foods are as different as there are languages. The rules are the same no matter what you are used to eating. If it doesn’t resonate well in your body, don’t eat it! And no matter what your culture dictates to you about food, knowledge and wisdom about what makes YOU feel good is essential.

BODY CONSCIOUSNESS

I am not perfect! But I have LEARNED to work with what I have and to change what I can in all areas. Because feeling good is so important to me, I will go to great lengths to improve myself in any way I can. I don’t look in the mirror and say, “wow, you are the hottest thing since corvettes!” But I do look at myself and say, “this is good, this is good and THIS I can work on.” The choice is there at every moment. I like to LIKE myself so I do what I can to ensure that I am content. I try to be as realistic as possible and NOT judge myself by others or by what they say to me. To compare myself to Nicole Kidman is off limits!! I value myself for WHO I am and for what I have to offer, and I am always a work in progress.
