…YOU CALL ME AN IDIOT?

At a training session I was in last week for ‘Health and Wellness Coaching’, I learned some interesting information about the nutritional value of food today, and where it stands with the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of nutrients necessary for the body to best sustain itself. This includes everything from carbs to calories, protein to Vitamin C. So, when I stumbled upon the online sensation Fatloss for Idiots, and it’s claim to help you “Lose 9 lbs. every 11 DAYS”, I wondered if this was some government plan designed to systematically kill off people using one of the most lucrative markets in America: health and weight loss. The epidemic of obesity in America has launched to unfounded proportions. Even with the multitude of diets, fitness equipment, and health programs out there, the effort has done as little as reduce the steep mountain-like problem to a plateau. So, what’s the secret held tight within the clutches of Fatloss for Idiots? Well, you’d need about forty bucks to find out. I, unfortunately, don’t have that much money to aid a genocidal government plot. So I pulled massive reviews from the Internet, in an effort to create a somewhat comprehensive view on what this thing is, and if it’s good enough to get idiotic about.

Does this diet Work?

It seems a bit strange to name a product in such a manner that implies the customer as an idiot. However, once you get into the nuts and bolts of this diet, you'll realize that the title of the product merely describe the simplicity of this dieting plan. It is so straightforward that almost anyone can follow it. When one first stumbles upon the weight loss site, Fat Loss 4 Idiots (fatloss4idiots.com), a few undesirable impressions come to mind. The title, first off, seems a bit insulting. Who wants to be thought of as an idiot? It’s bad enough the viewer is probably overweight and feels insecure about that. The second impression is that the website is for children or white women. Granted, the color schemes are great and so are the choices of font and animations, but this can be a turn off to certain audiences. Lastly, the looming “facts” seem to be slightly misleading – low fat foods DO help to lose weight as do low calorie or low carbohydrate diets. Of course, they aren’t ideal methods and need tweaking but the front page shirks them off entirely.

After one manages to get past the slightly juvenile exterior, things get better. The sexy models lead the reader to wonder – what is this secret diet plan and how can I try it? But the only clue is that the diet has something to do with the “shifting calorie theory,” stating that if you mix up your meals in a certain way, it will confuse your body leading to a higher portion of body fat being burned. While ideal, the website does little more than hint at a solution before requesting its reader to purchase the book.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots is a popular dieting plan focused on what you eat and when you eat it. The creators of Fat Loss 4 idiots make the bold claim that by following their program you can lose nine pounds every eleven days. They go so far as to note in their promotional literature that exercise does not make you thin; eating right does. Other popular diet plans – low fat, low calorie, low carb – are cast off as impossible choices for serious weight loss.

Here are some things they claim on their site: Nothing I’ve ever tried in my search for losing weight has worked! No Fat/Low Fat Foods – don’t work. Low Calorie/Low Carb/No Carb Foods – don’t work. If I wanted to try Jenny Craig (once heavily endorsed by actress Kirstie Alley – and proven to work), I’d be wasting my time and money. “You can get SLIM by eating the RIGHT FOODS at the RIGHT INTERVALS each day.” I feel like I’ve heard this before. Okay, so what’s the secret?
