Cons

• All of the information that seems pertinent in their nutritional plan – portion size, frequency of eating, and types of foods – can be found in an assortment of other sources for free.

• You have to follow this really strict meal plan for two weeks. No one is there to hold you accountable, which is an advantage to having a coach or personal trainer. Laziness is labeled as one of the causes of obesity.

• From someone who has experienced weight gain and loss, the idea of losing that much weight in that amount of time sounds unsafe. Doctors usually recommend a program in which you lose between 2 and maybe 3 pounds a week.

• It’s worth mentioning again. Laziness is labeled as one of the causes of obesity. That means physical activity is necessary for a healthy body, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk. The stronger and more active a body gets, the more fuel it needs, resulting in more fat that gets burned (under the right nutrition plan).

• Remember that Health and Wellness training session I went to? According to a research panel of doctors in UCLA, it would take 3,000 calories of normal grocery-bought food to complete our RDA of nutrients. Unless accompanied with dietary supplements that can be backed up by research to prove their safety and efficiency, no weight loss plan in the world will give the body the nutrients to work optimally. The best Fatloss will do is help you shed several pounds in several days. So, you get what you pay for.

A glaring concern of the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program is its claim that you can lose nine pounds every eleven days. In their literature the promoters of this program admit that this is not the case for everyone who opts in. Surely some will lose less, some more, and others nothing at all. Other variables are at play, including exercise and your level of health going into the diet. But a program designed to shed about 25 pounds in a month should throw up a red flag. While the decision to base their diet plan around whole grains and fruits and vegetables is admirable, Fat Loss 4 Idiots may have given into the trend to hype their program with catchy claims that many doctors and nutritionists might warn against.

In recent years, free and accessible media – both online and off – has been flooded with the type of nutritional information Fat Loss 4 Idiots is charging for. For example, one cannot open a web browser these days it seems without seeing a headline touting the benefits of whole grains, fiber, and fruits and vegetables while warning of the dangers of sugary, highly-processed foods. In addition, it has quickly become common knowledge, if it is not already, that a well-oiled metabolism is the result of small, frequent meals, not overeating or starvation. And we also know that, as Fat Loss 4 Idiots notes, exercise can help aid this process and contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle. It seems that many people, simply by going beyond the headlines and doing a bit of their own research, can connect the dots and put together a daily eating regimen as good as or better than a Fat Loss 4 Idiots program.

In terms of exercise, the book appears to be geared towards obese, lazy, or non-fit people. It stresses that abdominal and bicep exercises are ineffective which is not entirely true. While it is a fact that people who have excess body weight will not show muscular definition because layers of fat will hide the muscle, the book neglects to mention that the more muscle mass one has, the more calories and fat one burns in a day. Furthermore, higher cardio exercises impact body fat more than basic walking exercises that the book recommends. Nevertheless, walking is better than no exercise and most likely the people reading this book will gain at least some benefit from walking for 30 minute intervals.

While this particular diet encourages mostly healthy and nutritious foods, it seems to negate the importance of productive exercise and good cardio-vascular stimulation, both of which, according to experts and scientists, are crucial to an effective weight-loss program.
